Phoenix Fashion Week which has been termed “The leading fashion industry event in the South West” was established in 2005 with its purpose being to showcase different types and forms of fashion from talented, established and emerging fashion designers. Based in the fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States, Phoenix fashion week promotes diversity and culture from designers all over the world, it acts as a host to fashionistas, fashion bloggers like Valerie Voo , and local retailers like Cha-ChaChic. It is supported by Talking Stick Resort Amazing Lash Studio, VIP Global designer Showcase, and Sugar Sugar.
As much as The Phoenix Fashion Week is all about creativity, fashion and making connections, it is also about giving back and being involved in charitable partnerships. In 2009, the organization launched its first ever “giving back” holiday initiative working with the locals called “Helping Hands AZ” to raise money and donate apparel and gift cards to needy families across the valley. This year, a charitable push which benefits local breast cancer organizations was formed called “FASHIONABLY PINK.”
A special runway feature was organized on behalf of Holly Rose, Breast Cancer Survivor and Founder of Checkforalump.org. The opening runway featured fellow cancer survivors and some of Arizona's most notable celebrities. Some of the celebrities that have graced the event are Anchor Woman and Meteorologist, Caribe Devine from 12 News; Motivational Speaker, Boston Marathon Runner and Double Amputee, Jami Goldman Marseilles, Natasha Castles; Javier Soto of Good Morning Arizona Fundraising Auctioneer Specialist, Bobby D; Fashion producer and style critic, Oscar De Las Salas, Miss Teen Arizona Karly Riggs, Kyle Unfug, and many more.
This year’s Phoenix Fashion Week had everything that every fashion would love, great music, amazing outfits and of course Brian Hill was on hand to ensure that everything ran smoothly as he combined his role as the host alongside that of the stage designer, greeter and, organizer. The fashion show brought a whole new vibe in a way that we have not seen a while, and it was quite refreshing to be right in the thick of the action. The event also celebrated 14 selected winners have been preparing to launch their collections for the fashion event. Thus giving them a chance to connect with designers and buyers and a lot of designers also got endorsement deals before the event was wrapped up.
This year’s Phoenix Fashion Week showcased over 30 or more emerging and established designers showing the hottest trends in a colorful and fun way. The event gave a whole new meaning to the term “something new and daring.”
Phoenix Fashion Week 2017 also had educational fashion seminars and workshops; Business Of Fashion Seminar Series that was anchored by top industry experts. Where fashion designers were taught how to improve and evolve in business skills, network, and showcasing their clothing line.
One of my personal favorite designers from the 3 day event was Taussy Daniel of Maputo, Mozambique. She is one of the most innovative designers with numerous awards to her name, and she showed why she is highly respected with amazing outfits on the runway that will surely find their ways to a whole lot of closets.
With all the great talents that presented on the runway, the emerging designers of the year award went to Arizona's own - Aconav. And it is no surprise that they did because they have been churning out great outfits all year long and brought on the goods on the runway. Big Congrats to Native American founders Loren (Acoma Pueblo) and Valentina (Navajo) Aragon.
The Phoenix Fashion Week also offered opportunities through the “Model of the Year” competition where the winner got the chance to work with top talent agencies in Arizona. The Male + Female winners this year were Milan Ishmael Howard + Amanda Meza. Both models won contracts with The Arizona Agency! Congrats to them both!
