A tribute to fatherhood and family, celebrating active dads and their inspiring stories.
The Proud Poppas Photo Project is a heartfelt initiative celebrating fatherhood and family tradition. Created by Tyrone Z. McCants, this series features inspiring portraits of fathers from various backgrounds, each sharing their unique journeys and pride in actively participating in their children’s lives.
Beyond photography, this project evolved into a community movement. The Proud Poppas has become a beacon of support and inspiration for fathers and families through workshops, lectures, mentoring programs, and family outings. The project’s impact is further highlighted by its recognition in 2011, when the Brooklyn Borough President proclaimed June 19th Proud Poppas Day.

It means giving up all the games and being a good example for your child. Someone who arms will be the safest place in the world, and words will never be broken."

For me, it means being present both physically and emotionally; teaching your child to navigate life's blessings and challenges. Being a Father means being prepared to lead and sometimes follow, as well as being a teacher and often times, a learner.
