25 Years of Sisterhood: Honoring Dorothy J. Reed and the Legacy of Sister2Sister

In a sunlit room at their Somerset headquarters and later beneath the blossoming trees of Colonial Park, I sat down with the women of Sister2Sister—a grassroots breast cancer organization founded by four survivors and held together by the love, legacy, and leadership of everyday women who became champions for their community.

At the center of that mission is Dorothy J. Reed, President and Co-Founder, who has led Sister2Sister with grace and grit since 2000. A breast cancer survivor herself, Ms. Reed was moved to action after her own diagnosis. Her physician’s question — “Why are so many Black women dying from this disease?” — sparked the fire that birthed Sister2Sister.
